The Highs and Lows

I’m pretty sure that every new mother’s maintenance levels drop a bit when they have children. Even the most tan-obsessed, makeup addicts among us just don’t have the time once their demanding little darlings arrive. Even though my maintenance levels weren’t too high to begin with, they’re at an all time low at the moment.

If you were to ask my husband, he would insist I was high maintenance. However, his idea of high maintenance and mine are very, very different. He was be shocked if I was ever to become actually high maintenance. Instead I’m more middle maintenance, if that’s a thing. I wouldn’t claim to be low maintenance but I’m definitely not high. But like I said, I’m lower at the moment, kind of a lower-middle.I’ve never been a huge fake tan addict, but at one time I would apply my gradual tan a couple of times a week as well as have regularly having shellac appointments for my nails as well as a monthly trip to the salon and the occasional HD brow appointment. In the months after the Queen was born, you would be very lucky to see me with clean hair never mind anything else. But as the months have gone on, I’ve been getting used to parenthood and had to go back to the office, the maintenance levels are slowly creeping back up. As I’m not quite as carefree about money as I used to be, I do most beauty treatments myself. One thing, I could never give up is my shellac nail polish (I just feel like I have my life together when I have my nails done) so I got the sensationNail kit from Boots which I love but I never seem to have the time.

I am lucky, however, to have the occasional overnight stay with work in nice hotels and use these to my advantage. Last week, I was staying at the Radison Blu in Glasgow for a couple of nights and made sure to take my gradual tan, nail kit, my new  nail wraps by Jamberry and my teeth whitening kit.  I always feel better with a tan, good nails and a whiter smile and I think it’s important to make the time to do what makes you happy. Everyone, not just mothers, need that all important confidence boost somehow! If it’s a night away with work, an child-free afternoon or just a lazy weekend with no plan – crack open that fake tan bottle or whatever you need to take on the rest of the week.
